Mt. Oliver, Jan 26: The pocket meeting for Mt. Oliver folks took place at Dadi Ram Chhetri’s apartment from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2013 amidst the snow and freezing temperatures. The meeting was attended by 23 residents from the area and a good number of diverse age groups made for the ‘informational’ meeting.
The meeting touched on various day- to- day topics and issues faced by our community members and stressed on the need to reorient ourselves into the American culture of living and life-style by changing our old habits.
The issues discussed in detail were school and education, Students and Youths, health and communication as these issues keep cropping up time and again due to lack of adequate attention given by our community.
The meeting also stressed on the need of citizenship classes for the older folks and need to start one early. Most of them expressed happiness that BCAP is doing something to empower the community in various ways by identifying the critical areas of concern to us.
The facilitators in the meeting were Pabitra Katel, Ashok Gurung, Rup Pokhrel, Bala Gurung, Pradip Rai and KN Timsina who all spoke on specified topics of concern to the community.
