Barbara Murock administers the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) Immigrants and Internationals Initiative, created in 2007 to advance the Department’s vision of an accessible, culturally competent, human services system for all Allegheny County residents, particularly for those from vulnerable populations.
The initiative’s very active Advisory Council, comprised of representatives of immigrant and international communities and agencies that work with them, has been recognized as the leading immigrant organization in the Pittsburgh region. It has led the way in collaboratively developing ways to support immigrants in building on their strengths, achieve self-sufficiency and integrate successfully into the community. The Immigrants and Internationals Advisory Council has been awarded the 2015 Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Organizational Leadership Award from CORO Center for Civic Leadership.
Ms. Murock also serves as Health Policy Specialist, providing support and analysis of public healthcare programs across all DHS program offices. She has over 35 years’ experience serving local, national and international organizations, providing program development, policy advocacy and community outreach. She has also served on several local and national boards, including the Squirrel Hill Health Center, National Underground RR Bicycle Route, local and national boards of the ALS Association and chairs the board of the Consumer Health Coalition.
Ms. Murock received a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in Social and Public Policy from Duquesne University.
